Artist Statement
Devoted to unearthing the visual imperative which I define as, that which must be shown, my work explores both an artistic and ethnographic confrontation.
Using lens-based media as a varied practice artist, I seek to expose the relationships between constructed and discovered sociopolitical and interpersonal dialogues, ultimately disclosing observed undercurrents and overtures which impart a prospect for reflection and new understanding among uncommon audiences.
With influences as diverse as Nan Goldin, Nancy Burson, Gordon Parks, and Dawoud Bey, I present contemporary variations which challenge traditional and modern discourse—distilled from both opaque and transparent intersectional narratives.
Within the frame emerges a visual tapestry composed of relational form, natural light, and the contemplative nature of the human condition.
My artistic practice includes the creation of both fine art documentary and contemporary photography, and integrated new media art with roots in abstract constructivism and impressionism.
